(This grave is by the side of the path on the left hand side as you walk away from the church's main entrance Number 3 on the Friends of Darfield Churchyard Map which can be downloaded as a .pdf file here.)

In / loving memory of / my dear husband /  (Seaman) Frank Purple / killed by enemy action 11th March 1941 / aged 23 years / R.I.P / A bitter grief, a shock severe / to part with him we loved so dear / our loss is great / we'll not complain / but hope in heaven we meet again.

Frank Purple is buried here in Darfield Cemetery and remembered on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website.

Frank is also remembered on the All Saints Church WW2 Memorial Tablet, Darfield and on the  WW2 Roll of Honour in Maurice Dobson Museum, Darfield.

In loving memory / of / Wilfred / the beloved son of Thomas and Ada / Ennis / who died Feby 23rd 1930 / aged 20 years / also Mary their beloved daughter/who died April 6th 1929/aged 26 years / AT REST

(on kerb stone)
Also Pte William Ennis son of the aforesaid / killed in Action in France Sept 23rd 1917, aged 22 years.

William Ennis is also remembered on the Darfield Cenotaph Welfare Park, Darfield  and the Middlewood Shrine, Darfield

William Ennis is buried at the Bleuet Farm Cemetery in Belgium and is remembered on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website.

In Loving Memory Of / Oswald / the dearly beloved husband of / Amelia Barraclough / who died Oct. 16th 1920 / aged 54 years / also Crossland, the only / beloved son of the above / who died from wounds / received in action in Palestine / May 2nd 1918, aged 24 years / also Millicent Edna / their daughter / who died in infancy / Peace Perfect Peace.


He is remembered on the Barnsley, St Mary's Church, Combined Memorial and on the Barnsley, Holgate Grammar School Old Boys -WW1 and on the War Memorial at St Peter's Church in Wallsend in Northumberland (now Tyne and Wear). 

Crossland Barraclough is buried in the Jerusalem War Cemetery Commonwealth War Graves Commission.

In Loving Memory of / George Peel, Butcher of this Town / the beloved husband of Hannah Peel/ who died Octr 27th 1903 aged 49 years / Also the aforementioned Hannah Peel / who died November 25th 1923 /
Also George Smith, the dearly loved grandson of the aforementioned / who was accidentally killed in France and interred at / Vignacourt Cemetery August 15th 1918, Aged 18 years. 


Note:
Son of Tom & Mary Margaret Smith.

He is also remembered on the Barnsley, Holgate Grammar School Old Boys - WW1 Memorial Plaque in the Cooper Gallery, the Grammar School having been demolished.

George is buried in the Vignacourt British Cemetery and commemorated on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website.

Tom is remembered on the Arras Memorial and commemorated on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website.

Sgt. Claude Scott, 12th Batt. East Yorks Regt. / died of wounds received in action / in France Nov. 13th 1916, aged 34 years / also of Pte. Frank Marcus Lindley / 6th Lancs Fusiliers / died of wounds received in action / in Belgium July 23rd 1917, aged 19 years / and Sec. Lieut. Foster Lindley, 7th Batt. East Yorks regt. / died of wounds received in action / in France Sept. 5th 1918, aged 29 years / the affectionate son-in-law and sons of / Thomas & Alice Lindley

Claude Scott died on 13 November 1916 and is buried in Euston Road Cemetery, Colincamps in France and commemorated on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website


Frank Marcus Lindley died on 30 July 1917 and is buried in Coxyde Military Cemetery in Belgium and commemorated on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website.

Foster Lindley died 5 September 1916 and is buried in Varennes Military Cemetery in France and commemorated on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website.

The three men are remembered in Blucher Street Chapel, Barnsley

The two brothers, Foster and Frank Lindley are remembered on the Holgate Grammar School Old Boys memorial.  ( Holgate Grammar School is now demolished).

Herbert is remembered on Tyne Cot Memorial in Belgium and is remembered on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website.

Herbert is also remembered in St Mary's Church in Barnsley.
