In Affectionate Remembrance of / William Wainwright / late of Hoyland Common / who died October 23 1890 / aged 71 years / also Martha wife of the above / who died November 12th 1900 / aged 77 years / also Millicent Jane Cissey daughter / of Fred and Almena Wainwright born / Nov. 9th 1893 died June 2nd 1904 / also Verner the dearly loved son / of Fred and Almena Wainwright / who died of wounds July 27th 1916 / aged 24 years / Greater love hath no man / than this.
 

He is also remembered on the Hoyland Nether, St Peters Church, Memorial Panels and on the Hoyland War Memorial, West Street and Kirk Balk, Hoyland

Verner is buried in the Caudry Old Communal Cemetery in France and commemorated on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website.
